Hi everyone:
Just a note as scheduling begins and parents begin to inqure about Freshman Seminar. Freshman Seminar is being strongly recommended for all students regardless of academic status. While we cannot technically require it, we want it to feel as if it that important. This is more than a study skills course. This is a course which explores careers, opportunities, and allows students to project 10 years into the future and map out a plan to get there, including what courses they need to take and what pathway is needed to get there. Students will begin exploring the High School Graduation Project and work to develop the individual skills that are needed for this new graduation requirement. Along the way, study strategies will be discussed as well as real life scenarios to develop the relevance of high school to the "real world". The course will help students adjust to the increased rigor of high school and begin to develop relationships with high school staff and different students. Colleges today are looking for students that are able to demonstrate all of these skills and work into well-rounded and self-sufficient learners.
There should only be a few exceptions to those taking Freshman Seminar. Since middle school folks will have first access to these students, it is important that students and parents are getting the message as to how important this class is. Please let me know if there is anything else that you need from me.
