Schools and businesses in the Wake Forest area have joined together to help meet the needs of students and teachers.  The School-Business Alliance engages community resources (businesses, parents, and community organizations) to provide support and workplace realities for teachers and students at Wake Forest-Rolesville High School and Middle School, and Heritage Middle School.  Each school alliance is part of the Business Education Leadership Council.

There are many ways that the business community can help the schools, such as

Current Projects

WFR Business Alliance supports academic achievement

For the past five years, the WFR School-Business Alliance has supported the School Improvement Plans of Wake Forest-Rolesville Middle and High Schools by sponsoring events to motivate achievement among at-risk students.  Usually, a target group at each school is challenged to meet a specific academic goal.  Those who achieve the goal are honored with a pizza lunch hosted by Business Alliance members.

Career Fair Lunches

Heritage Middle School is sponsoring a series of career speakers during the month of March on Wednesdays and Fridays. Students will sign up to eat lunch in a classroom with a guest speaker from different careers and occupations.

Triangle Town Center Career Fair

Our Alliance has participated for the past two years in a regional career fair held at Triangle Town Center in October. More than 400 speakers or exhibits are present for students to visit. Each of our schools sent students to this event.

Truck Fair- WFRMS

Each spring, WFRMS has an exploratory activity allowing sixth grade students to see the relevance of their school work to workplace realities.  This year's Truck Fair was rescheduled from March 18 to May 13 due to winter weather. We had a variety of vehicles from fire engines to a giant roller skate on campus, along with drivers and speakers to talk about their careers.

Success, Inc.

For the past several years, WFRHS has sponsored forums for its ninth grade students called "Success, Inc."  All students attended a seminar with a local business leader as facilitator.  The seminars had a theme such as "Business Ethics" or "Communication."  After a short training, volunteers stayed for about an hour with the students.  These seminars have been very successful, with forty volunteers participating each semester..

XTreme Beginnings

Several of our business members participate in "Job Shop" ,  usually held in the spring in Raleigh.  This event allows high school seniors from across the county to participate in mock interviews and attend sessions about money management, apartment living, and much more.  Students receive feedback about their interview skills and learn about different types of careers from potential future employers.

groundhog
Groundhog Job Shadow Day is a national event traditional held on the Friday just before Groundhog Day (Feb. 2.)
Take A Child to Work Day is held the fourth Thursday in April. Our students have participated in job shadowing on these dates and at other times during the school year. Alliance partners and other local businesses have been active participants in this event.  Students are excused from school to visit the workplace of their shadow host.  Some companies provide tours of the facility, and some provide the opportunity to interview various employees at the company.  Students gain valuable experience of job expectations and realities.

How about a chance to be bank manager for a day at CCB?
